Dr William Hwang is a BMDP Committee Member who runs the newly formed BMDP Medical Advisory comprising a team of Haematologists who help to advise the BMDP on numerous medical issues. He is a Senior Consultant Haematologist, with a key focus on Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation, at the Singapore General Hospital. Dr Hwang serves as Medical Director of the Singapore Cord Blood Bank, one of the few international member cord blood banks of the US National Marrow Donor Program. He is also Group Leader in Stem Cell Research and Principal Investigator of the Laboratory of Hematopoietic Stem Cells at the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School.
He serves as the current Vice-President, Asia and Pacific Islands, of the World Marrow Donor Association.
His key interest is in making Hematopoietic Stem Cell Therapy (with bone marrow, cord blood etc) safer and more available to everyone in need of it.
